Process

Jigsaw has developed a new process in garden design, using a concept many of us are familiar with but applying it to the context of your garden or outdoor space.

Why is it that most of use can design a room in our property; choosing carpets, wall coverings and furniture but hit the proverbial blank wall when it comes to designing our garden? Sounds familiar?

Initial Contact

Perhaps a friend has recommended us or you've seen our advertising and display on Stand 3 at The Royal Agricultural Show in Sulby (11th and 12th August). Simply call us on 493304, leave a message on 853870 or email info@jigsawgarden.co.im and we'll discuss your thoughts and ideas. A mutually convenient time and date to meet at your property will be arranged. We will send you a garden space questionnaire which will help you think about your garden or outdoor space and what you really need and want from it in a structured manner. The completed questionnaire should be returned to Jigsaw and a convenient time arranged for the initial property visit.

Initial Property Visit

We will review the garden design questionnaire and exchange ideas about how your garden could be redeveloped. You can view our portfolio of completed gardens, any elements of which can be included or modified to suit your space. We will walk through and measure the area of your garden and discuss potential design ideas and styles.

There is no charge for the visit and you are under no obligation to proceed to the detailed design stage.

Following our meeting I will prepare a written summary of our discussion together with an estimate of our design fees.

Design Fees

Design fees are based on the area of your garden and the complexity of the proposed redevelopment. The fee is to cover our time spent in visiting, measuring and drawing your garden, planting and lighting plans.

The design fee excludes items such as planning, surveyor or structural engineer fees etc. We will identify any such requirements in advance and ensure you are fully aware of the associated costs.

It is difficult to state a fee in advance of seeing your garden and discussing your ideas but a typical fee for a small garden up to 150 square metres would be £150.

Concept Meeting

If my quote and terms are acceptable, I will carry out a basic site survey to record as appropriate: garden size, levels, boundaries, aspect, existing plants and features, soil type and condition.

Measurements of the garden area, slopes, levels and aspect will be taken and notes made of any existing features or plants that you wish to be retained. This initial survey will be used to develop concept sketches of your new garden design for discussion, amendment and agreement at a subsequent meeting.

Extensive gardens or those with complex slopes and levels may require the services of a Surveyor. We will obtain quotations and on your agreement, instruct and price them direct to you.

Following the survey, alternative garden design concept sketches will be discussed together with any new ideas you may have had. The sketch plans are not to scale but will be in proportion to the available space and include details about the materials used and planting selection. Amendments can be made and agreement reached about your preferred design.

Detailed Design

The concept plan will be developed into a detailed master plan for your garden. Drawings and sketches will be drawn to scale and show you how the redesigned garden will look. Three dimensional sketches will be drawn to give you a better understanding of how the garden will look when viewed from ground level.

Bronze, Silver and Gold standards

A new concept I have developed involves creating Bronze, Silver and Gold standards of your chosen garden design, adding new elements and more expensive materials at each level. Within each level optional extras can be included so you can specify how much you want to spend on each area – this way you get the garden design you want at a price you are happy to pay.

A detailed estimate or quotation will accompany the master plan. A garden construction contract will be drawn up for your review, alteration if needed, and acceptance. A construction timetable will be provided on receipt of written acceptance of the contract.

Construction

Depending on the scale and complexity of the redesign, Jigsaw will perform the construction work or work in conjunction with approved sub-contractors. Jigsaw will obtain quotes from a number of suppliers and discuss them with you together with our recommendations their work. Jigsaw will project-manage their work.

Planting

We work closely with you to try and ensure that all your favourite plants and colours are included where appropriate. There is plenty of scope for personal additions to your garden.

Plants will be sourced as far as possible from local suppliers and supplemented where necessary with unusual or larger plants from Jigsaw's stock or UK suppliers.
